Inspired by the broad agenda of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, COMPASS is an international forum for the presentation and publication of original research that supports the growth of sustainable societies worldwide, from disciplines including computer and information sciences, social sciences, environmental sciences, and engineering.
COMPASS 2024 is putting a special emphasis on the “Practitioners Track”.
Who should be interested?
You are a practitioner from the industry, startups, government, NGOs, social enterprises, academia or other sectors.
You are in involved in research / implementation / projects in the domains of sustainable societies, related to the UN SDGs, social sciences, climate change, energy, water, smart mobility, HCI, healthcare, education, etc. and at an intersection with computing.
How can you engage during COMPASS?
You have multiple options to participate in COMPASS and engage with the community, both in the short term and the medium term.
Research to Impact Collaboratives (RICs) – you can join a call-for-proposal for a RIC in partnerships with multiple stakeholders including academia, industry, NGOs, social enterprises, and impact funding agencies. It will provide the means to work on goals over multiple years along with partners to translate research efforts into impact on the ground as well as to unearth new research challenges to address. There will be RIC specific workshops on Day 1 of the conference.
Lightning Talks – you can present an overview of your work / project / social impact area in 2-3 minutes to the COMPASS participants. Followed by an interaction session over posters/demos.
AMA sessions – you may attend AMA sessions with global and leading ACM researchers in computing, and ask questions about emerging computing technologies such as AI, genAI.
You may participate in-person or remotely in these sessions.
What’s in it for you?
This is a globally renowned conference at the intersection of computing and sustainable societies. You will get to interact with world-leading researchers in these domains.
Many of you are creating significant impact on the ground and you can bring your learning to the academic community to address new research challenges that you encounter on the field.
You may get funding for unique research problems that may emerge from your social impact work on the ground. (Potentially forming collaborations between practitioners in the global south and researchers in the global north).
What do I do?
